# Research brief

## Inputs
- Topic and question to answer
- Audience and length (default: two pages)
- Date cut-off (default: today)

## Steps
1. List 5–8 sub-questions before searching.
2. Search primary sources first: company pages, help centres, filings, papers. Then reputable reporting.
3. For every claim, record: claim, value, source URL, publication date, date checked.
4. Label each claim **verified** (matches a primary or two independent secondary sources), **partial**, or **unverified**.
5. Write: summary (5 bullets) → findings → what's disputed → what to watch → sources.
6. Never present an unverified claim as fact. Write "reported by X" instead.

## Guardrails
- Quote numbers exactly as the source gives them, with units and dates.
- If two sources conflict, show both and say which you prefer and why.

## Output
Markdown brief + a CSV of claims (`claim,value,source_url,published,checked,status`).
